I grew up in Syracuse New York throughout the 80s and I remember A LOT of cement in the architecture there. Lemoyne College, the Library, the Museum, etc.--LOTS of cement; and while many say that this particular style feels oppressive, when I look at Brutalist architecture, I'm attracted like a moth to flame--not only because there's a heightened vibe of my hometown, but as an artist, these shapes are truly gorgeous. Came across some particularly great examples today--not all Brutalist, but definitely a lot of cold, comforting, calcitrant cement.
Plus, a lot of amazing stories behind most of these...
